Sun Damage

Sun Damage

Sun damage is generally due to prolonged sun exposure and is also referred to as photo ageing or premature ageing of skin and is characterised by the following changes seen in the skin

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Uneven pigmentation
  • Sun spots and age spots
  • Thinning or thickening of the skin
  • Blackheads and whiteheads
  • Redness from broken fine blood vessels
  • Bruising
  • Actinic keratosis
  • Skin cancer

Some problems with photo ageing are more cosmetic and harmless but others such as Actinic Keratosis can indicate precancerous lesions and there is increased risk of skin cancers. Hence a detailed consultation could help decide on a tailored treatment plan.

Treatment for photo ageing would vary depending on the particular concern of the individual and could range from lasers to botulinum toxin injections and fillers for improving fine and deep wrinkles.
